welcome to the mechanical world of droneroperator.com
drone operator is the alter-ego of Central Florida producer Robert Caperton. The catalogue of music found here mostly spans the time period between 1996 and now, but earlier recordings that date back to 1990 exist. These recordings document the musical growing pains of nearly two decades of production and from the simplest 4-track cassette recordings to songs that have 60 tracks of just percussion sounds the production ethic has always leaned toward the dark and ominous.
Some of the material now labeled 'drone operator' was originally part of other projects, primarily Cities of the Red Night (with Mike Miller, who now produces under the moniker Amorphous and formerly produced as part of the drum-n-bass duo Substrata), and Narthex (with Fred Noel formerly of Triage, Le Mejor Sellecion and My Slick Car). If other musicians participated in the production of a track, it will be noted; otherwise, all tracks were produced by Robert Caperton.
This site has not changed much since it went up in 2005, but visitors can certainly expect changes to be taking place in the next several weeks. After taking a brief sabbatical from work, school, music, and responsibility in general, drone operator will become an evolving force in the Central Florida electronic music scene. New tracks will be written and posted; a regular blog will appear both on this site and on the drone operator myspace page. Pictures will be added, and a complete discography will be posted as well. All drone operator music is published under creative commons: all we ask is that if you use/sample/remix any drone operator song you provide credit to drone operator and a link to the site. If you want free drone operator music, ask for it.
